DENTAL IMPLANT

Dental implant surgery is a procedure that replaces tooth roots with metal, screwlike posts and replaces damaged or missing teeth with artificial teeth that look and function much like real ones. Artificial tooth roots made of titanium, are put in place of the extracted teeth. Because the titanium in the implants fuses with your jawbone, the implants won’t slip, make noise or cause bone damage the way fixed bridgework or dentures might. Titanium is biologically compatible with body bone. The main cause of bone resorption is tooth deficiency. Dental implants done on time will prevent bone deterioration.

Procedure: First, implants are placed in the jawbone with a simple surgical procedure. Approximately 3 months after this, an impression is taken and crown teeth are attached. Implant application is performed with local anesthesia and is often much simpler and painless than a tooth extraction. In cases where there is bone deficiency it is likely fort he procedure to be more difficult. It is not a surprise if this possibility exists. The examination and advanced x-ray and tomography techniques are determined by the physician in advance and the patient is informed.

One implant can be applied to each missing tooth, as well as a fixed crown bridge with 4-6-8 implants or a removable prosthesis with 2-4 implants in the mouths with several missing teeth or complete toothless ones.

The lifespan of implants depends on several issues. The most important of these is that the jaw bone to be implanted is sufficient in volume (thickness) and it is a good quality bone. In cases where the bone is insufficient, the amount of jawbone can be increased or its quality can be improved with simple or advanced surgical techniques. The next important factors are: Doctor’s great knowledge and skills, good laboratory, the patient’s oral care habits, smoking, some general systemic disorders, parafunctions such as teeth clenching, the quality of the implant used, etc.

It will not be good if the number of implants is less than necessary, and the logic of more implants will not be correct. With a good planning, the ideal number of implants, length and diameter should be determined.

Not every implant is the same. Length and diameter vary. 3.5 -4 mm diameter 10 mm length is an average size.

When Should The İmplant Be Made?

The answer to this question should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes on the same day as tooth extraction, sometimes after a while (like 3-4 months)

How long do implants last?

Depending on the factors mentioned above, implants can last a lifetime or shorter.

Can a temporary tooth be placed where the implant will be made?

Yes, it can be inserted, but in some cases, the temporary tooth puts the life of the permanent teeth at risk. This situation should be evaluated together with the patient and the physician according to the case.
